Where does the name Summer & Boyd come from?
Our own last names – Ashley Summer and Chris Boyd.
Where are you located?
We’re based out of the San Francisco Bay Area in beautiful Walnut Creek, CA.
Do you travel to other cities?
Absolutely! We often travel between Northern and Southern California for weddings in the Bay Area, LA, and Orange County. We also accept commissions for destination weddings worldwide.
Do you take family group photos?
Yes. Typically, we spend about 15-20 minutes just after the ceremony to photograph quick formal groupings of the families and bridal parties. We ask that you assign a friend or family member to help us “wrangle” people in order to make these photos go much more smoothly and quickly.
How much time should we allow for our Bride & Groom photos?
We request a minimum of 30 minutes alone with the bride and groom for portraits. This is one of our favorite parts of the day! Generally, these photos are taken during the cocktail hour after the ceremony. But some of our clients choose to see each other before the ceremony, once they are finished getting ready. This allows for a fun, intimate ‘first look’ moment.
Do you provide a disc of images?
Yes, our coverage includes a disc of high resolution images for personal use.
Do you provide online proofing?
Yes, we provide online proofing for you and your guests to browse photos and order prints.
How many photos do you take?
We shoot an unlimited number of photos at each wedding, although many of them may not make the final cut. We firmly believe in delivering on quality, not quantity. Therefore, we cannot guarantee a specific number of images but, rest assured, you will receive a wide range of photos that complete the story of your wedding day.
Can we hire you for less than 8 hours?
Sure! Although we don’t recommend less than 8 hours of photography coverage for a typical wedding day, we can put together a custom quote for smaller events and elopements.
Can you pencil us in or hold our date?
We cannot reserve a date on our calendar without a signed contract and retainer payment.
How do you require payments to be broken down?
We ask for 50% of the contracted value to reserve your date (retainer) and the remaining balance no less than 30 days prior to the wedding.
How far in advance will you book?
We accept commissions for weddings up to 12 months in advance.
How do we hire you?
It’s super easy – just let us know what you’d like in your collection and we’ll start the booking process. Everything is handled through our online booking system, where you can sign your contract and make payments.
What form of payment do you take?
Major credit cards accepted online via Paypal. Or you can mail us a check.
How do we see our images after the wedding?
Once we’re finished processing your photos, we’ll create an online slideshow of photographer favorites. We also provide a password-protected proofing gallery for family and friends to browse images and order prints.
What is your turn around time?
Because we take such care in editing your photos, it usually takes 4-6 weeks after your wedding date to get them completed.
How many photographers will be at my wedding?
Two. Ashley and Chris shoot all weddings together.
Do we get a chance to meet with you before the wedding?
We’re happy to meet with local clients prior to their wedding day. For clients outside of the Bay Area, we encourage a phone call to answer any questions you may have.
Do you shoot video?
We don’t offer video services, but we can recommend some amazing videographers.
Do we need to feed you?
Yes please! We do specify in our contract that a meal be provided for both photographers. Most of our clients choose to seat us with their guests, so that we can keep an eye on the action as things unfold during the reception.
